As we mark Omic's first year, we're excited to share the progress we've made building our AI-driven drug discovery platform.

Building the Foundation

Since our founding in 2017, we've been heads-down building the core technology that will power our drug discovery efforts:

  • Omic Data Engine: A scalable infrastructure for ingesting, normalizing, and analyzing multi-omics datasets across public and proprietary sources
  • BioReason: Our first-generation AI system for biological hypothesis generation and testing
  • Integration framework: APIs connecting to major biological databases including GEO, TCGA, and UniProt

Growing the Team

We've expanded from our founding team to 6 people, bringing together expertise in:

  • Machine Learning - Advancing our AI architectures
  • Computational Biology - Guiding biological modeling
  • Data Engineering - Scaling our data infrastructure
  • Software Engineering - Building robust, production systems

The Bootstrapped Approach

We've chosen to build Omic as a bootstrapped company. This decision reflects our belief that transforming drug discovery requires long-term thinking, not short-term metrics driven by external funding pressures.

Being self-funded means:

  • Patient capital: We can invest in hard problems without pressure for quick exits
  • Aligned incentives: Our success depends entirely on building technology that works
  • Sustainable growth: We grow as our technology proves itself

What's Next

Our immediate priorities include:

  1. Expanding our multi-omics data corpus to over 1 million patient samples
  2. Validating our target discovery AI on known drug targets
  3. Beginning pilot programs with pharmaceutical partners

We're building something that hasn't existed before—AI that truly understands biology. Our bootstrapped approach gives us the freedom to do it right.

Omic is a self-funded company headquartered in San Francisco.
