Today we're announcing the founding of Omic with a singular mission: to build biological superintelligence capable of ending disease.
The Problem We're Solving
Drug discovery is fundamentally broken. It takes 10-15 years and $2-3 billion to bring a single drug to market, with a 90% failure rate in clinical trials. Most of these failures happen because we don't truly understand the biology of disease at a systems level.
Current approaches treat drug discovery as a series of isolated steps—find a target, screen compounds, run trials. But biology doesn't work in isolation. Diseases emerge from complex interactions across genes, proteins, metabolites, and cells. To cure disease, we need AI that can reason across all of these dimensions simultaneously.
Our Approach
Omic is building AI systems that understand biology the way biologists do—but at a scale and speed impossible for humans:
- Multi-omics integration: Combining genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data to build complete pictures of disease
- Systems biology reasoning: Understanding how perturbations propagate through biological networks
- Computational hypothesis generation: Letting AI propose and test hypotheses about disease mechanisms
We believe this approach can fundamentally transform how medicines are discovered.
The Team
Our founding team brings together expertise in computational biology, machine learning, and drug discovery. We've seen firsthand the limitations of traditional approaches and are committed to building something fundamentally new.
What's Next
Over the coming months, we'll be building our foundational technology platform and assembling a world-class team. We're particularly focused on:
- Building scalable infrastructure for multi-omics data processing
- Developing novel AI architectures for biological reasoning
- Establishing partnerships with academic medical centers for data access
This is just the beginning. We're building for the long term—because ending disease is a problem worth solving right.
Omic was founded in San Francisco in June 2017.
