Today we're announcing the launch of Omic's Digital Patient platform—a computational system that creates virtual representations of individual patients for drug testing and response prediction.
What is a Digital Patient?
A Digital Patient is a comprehensive computational model of an individual patient's biology, built from their multi-omics data:
- Genomics: Genetic variants and their functional effects
- Transcriptomics: Gene expression patterns across tissues
- Proteomics: Protein abundance and modifications
- Metabolomics: Metabolite profiles and pathway activity
By integrating these data layers, we create a systems-level representation of how each patient's biology works—and how it might respond to therapeutic intervention.
Why This Matters
Traditional drug development tests compounds in cell lines and animal models before moving to human trials. But these models often fail to predict human responses, contributing to the 90% failure rate in clinical trials.
Digital Patients offer a new paradigm:
- Patient-specific predictions: Test how drugs might work in individual patients, not just average populations
- Mechanism exploration: Understand why a drug works or fails at the molecular level
- Virtual trials: Simulate clinical outcomes before investing in expensive human studies
- Biomarker discovery: Identify molecular signatures that predict response
Platform Capabilities
The Digital Patient platform includes:
- Patient Constructor: Automated pipeline for building Digital Patients from raw omics data
- Drug Simulator: Computational modeling of drug effects on patient biology
- Response Predictor: Machine learning models for efficacy and safety prediction
- Cohort Analyzer: Tools for identifying patient subgroups with distinct response profiles
Initial validation shows strong correlation between our predictions and actual patient outcomes in retrospective studies.
Early Access Program
We're launching an Early Access Program for pharmaceutical partners interested in applying Digital Patients to their drug discovery programs. Initial focus areas include:
- Oncology biomarker discovery
- Patient stratification for clinical trials
- Mechanism of action studies
- Drug repurposing
The COVID-19 Moment
This launch comes during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has highlighted the urgent need for faster, smarter drug discovery. While our immediate focus isn't on infectious disease, the broader lesson is clear: we need better tools for understanding how diseases work and how drugs can treat them.
Digital Patients represent a step toward that future.
