We're announcing CVD-001, Omic's first cardiovascular program—targeting lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), one of the most validated but challenging targets in cardiovascular disease.

The Lp(a) Opportunity

Lipoprotein(a) is a genetically determined cardiovascular risk factor:

  • Elevated in ~20% of the population
  • Causes 2-3x increased risk of heart attack and stroke
  • No approved therapies despite decades of research
  • ~200 million people could benefit from Lp(a)-lowering treatment

Unlike LDL cholesterol, Lp(a) levels don't respond significantly to diet, exercise, or statins. Current approaches in development focus on RNA-based therapies, which require injection and have significant manufacturing complexity.

Our AI's Discovery

Our AI Scientist analyzed multi-omics data to understand Lp(a) biology:

  • Mapped the complete Lp(a) biosynthesis pathway from genomic and proteomic data
  • Identified novel intervention points beyond the known targets
  • Discovered potential small molecule approaches to Lp(a) reduction
  • Modeled patient subgroups by mechanism of elevated Lp(a)

The key insight was finding a previously unexplored node in the pathway amenable to small molecule intervention.

Why Small Molecules?

Current Lp(a) programs in development (like pelacarsen and olpasiran) are antisense oligonucleotides or siRNAs that require injection and have complex manufacturing. A small molecule Lp(a)-lowering drug would offer:

  • Oral dosing: Much easier for patients
  • Lower cost: Critical for a common chronic condition
  • Faster development: Better-understood regulatory pathway
  • Combination potential: Easy to combine with statins

Program Status

CVD-001 is in early discovery:

  • Target validated through genetic and computational analysis
  • High-throughput screen completed with multiple hit series
  • Early structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies underway
  • Clear proof-of-concept experiments defined

The Platform Advantage

CVD-001 demonstrates how our platform can rapidly enter new therapeutic areas:

  1. AI identifies opportunity through systematic analysis
  2. Digital Patients model the biology and predict responders
  3. AI chemistry accelerates hit finding and optimization
  4. Integrated platform enables lean, efficient programs

We went from "no cardiovascular program" to "validated target with hit compounds" in under 12 months.
