Today we're introducing the Omic AI Scientist—an autonomous artificial intelligence system that conducts drug discovery research independently.

Beyond AI Tools

Most AI in drug discovery today works as a tool: you ask it a question, it gives you an answer, you decide what to do next. The human remains in the loop at every step.

The Omic AI Scientist is different. It's not a tool—it's a research partner that can:

  • Form hypotheses about disease mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities
  • Design experiments to test those hypotheses computationally
  • Analyze results and refine understanding based on outcomes
  • Iterate continuously through the scientific method, 24/7

This represents a fundamental shift in how AI can contribute to drug discovery.

How It Works

The AI Scientist integrates our entire platform into an autonomous research loop:

  1. Literature synthesis: Continuously reads and integrates new scientific publications
  2. Data analysis: Mines our multi-omics database for patterns and signals
  3. Hypothesis generation: Proposes testable hypotheses about targets and mechanisms
  4. Virtual experimentation: Tests hypotheses using Digital Patient simulations
  5. Knowledge integration: Updates its understanding based on results

The system operates continuously, conducting research while human scientists sleep.

Early Results

In controlled experiments, the AI Scientist has demonstrated remarkable capabilities:

  • Identified 3 novel targets that were subsequently validated experimentally
  • Proposed mechanisms for known drug resistance that were confirmed in literature
  • Generated hypotheses at 100x the rate of human researchers
  • Maintained accuracy comparable to human PhD scientists on reasoning tasks

Most impressively, several of its discoveries were genuinely novel—ideas that hadn't appeared in the literature before.

Human-AI Collaboration

The AI Scientist doesn't replace human researchers—it augments them. Our scientists review the AI's hypotheses, guide its priorities, and validate its discoveries through wet lab experiments.

The result is a research team that combines:

  • Human creativity and strategic thinking
  • AI scale and computational power
  • Experimental validation to ground discoveries in reality

What's Next

We're now deploying the AI Scientist across our internal pipeline programs. Early results suggest it can significantly accelerate the target discovery phase—potentially compressing years of research into months.

This is what we've been building toward since founding Omic: AI that can do real science, not just assist with it.
